SpacePaper is the easiest way to make your existing tools trackable. It's an ultra-thin paper tag with a strong 3M adhesive backing — barely 0.8mm thick and just 4 grams — so it disappears inside a tool case, under a battery, behind a label or into the lid of a flight case. There's no SIM and no data plan: it locates itself through the same kind of crowd network that finds lost phones and keys, using any nearby smartphone as a silent relay.
What you'll need
- Your SpacePaper tags (one per tool, case or kit you want to track).
- The Localizit app on your phone, or the web dashboard.
- Five minutes per tool.
Step 1 — Activate and stick
Pull the activation tab to wake the tag. Choose a hiding spot a thief won't think to check — inside the moulded foam of a case, under the rubber base of a power tool, or beneath the printed label. The thinner and more hidden the tag, the longer it keeps reporting after a theft.
Step 2 — Scan it into Localizit
Open the Localizit app and scan the QR code on the tag with your camera. Give the tool a name, snap a photo, and add its make, model and serial number. That record becomes the tool's digital identity — useful for everyday inventory and essential if you ever need to prove ownership.
Step 3 — Set your alerts and a home zone
Draw a geofence around your yard, lock-up or driveway. Localizit can alert you the moment a tagged tool leaves that zone or starts moving after hours — so you often know before you've even noticed anything missing.
Tip — Tag the case and a tool inside it separately. If a thief dumps the case to travel light, you've still got eyes on the tool itself.
Step 4 — Check the map
That's it. Every tagged tool now shows on a single live map. You can see the last known location of your whole kit at a glance, check battery levels, and review where each item has been. SpacePaper runs for around 90 days, so a quick refresh each quarter keeps your fleet covered.
Once your tools are tagged and registered, you're ready for the part nobody wants to need — but everybody should be prepared for: tracking your kit down if it's ever stolen.
