If you farm, contract or ride off-road, you already know it: quad bikes and ATVs are a magnet for thieves. They're valuable, they're often left in fields, yards and outbuildings, and most have no number plate to trace. A determined gang can have one winched into a van or trailer in minutes — and once it's gone, recovery rates are dismal. Covert tracking is the single most effective way to tip those odds back in your favour.
Why quads and ATVs are so hard to recover
- No registration plates on most off-road machines, so there's nothing for police or the public to spot.
- They're stolen to order and moved fast — broken for parts, sold on, or exported within days.
- Rural properties are isolated, so break-ins are rarely witnessed.
- Frame and engine numbers are easily ground off or overlooked once a machine is sold on.
The right tag for an off-road machine
ATVs give you options most assets don't — including a permanent power supply:
- SpaceLine — wire it straight into the quad's 12V system and it never needs charging. Tucked behind a panel it's invisible and runs for the life of the machine.
- Irregular Heat-Shrink — a rugged, long-life capsule that hides in a frame cavity or under the seat where a thief won't think to look.
- SpacePaper — a paper-thin backup tag stuck somewhere unexpected, so even if one tag is found, another keeps reporting.
Tip — Fit two tags in different places. Thieves who know what they're doing will sweep for a tracker — give them one to find and one to miss.
Geofence the yard and sleep easier
Draw a geofence around your farm, yard or storage barn in Localizit. The moment a tagged machine crosses that boundary — or starts moving in the small hours — you get an alert. For many rural thefts, that early warning is the difference between catching it live and finding an empty shed in the morning.
If the worst happens
Open the live map, confirm the machine is moving, and call the police with your tracking — don't go after it yourself. Share a live location link with the officer dealing with your case, and have your machine's details ready: make, model, frame/VIN number and any security marking (CESAR/Datatag). A tracked, documented ATV is far more likely to come home — and far easier to prove is yours.
Tag it, geofence it, register it. It's a few minutes of setup against the very real cost — and disruption — of losing the machine your livelihood depends on.
Make your tools findable
Tag your kit with SpacePaper, keep an insurance-ready register, and share live tracking with the police — all from one app.
