Why tack is a thief's favourite

Saddles hold their value and sell quickly online and at sales.
Tack rooms are often in isolated yards with light security.
Most tack has no obvious unique identifier once a maker's label is removed.
Insurers frequently ask for proof of ownership and value that owners simply don't have to hand.

Tagging tack discreetly

Tack needs tags that hide and survive everyday use:

Tag the tack room and trailer too — a tag on the trunk itself tells you the moment the whole lot moves.

Tip — Tag your everyday saddle and your competition saddle separately, and photograph the maker's stamp and serial number while you're at it.

Build an insurance-ready record
